Today’s quote

“So, you couldn’t find a car you like here in Germany? No, I couldn’t find a speed limit I liked in America!”

From the cool 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Commercial found at the Ford website. You’ll have to wait until the video intro is over, and then click on the image in the left navigation under the Cobra logo.

See the unexpected!

When the Ford Mustang was launched in 1964, it was advertised as a new generation of Ford for a new breed of Americans. Coming April 17th (1964 of course) the unexpected Ford Mustang, here’s the teaser ad:

This is another 1964 commercial for the Mustang. Only $2.369 dollars, I’d have to find a way to fly back in time :-)

Why 1965?

Like you can read in the title of this blog my wish is to get a Ford Mustang from 1965. Actually, the 1964-1966 models are all good, but in 1967 Ford did one of the first major redesigns and although it’s still a nice car, I find it less attractive compared to the ‘original’. From 1974 with the second generation, and 1979 with the third generation, etc… it only got worse everytime. The all American Muscle car had become just another random ugle car.

And then in 2004 Ford introduced the 5th generation, again a completely new redesign, drawing inspiration from the sixties models… and we all saw that it was good. They referred to it as retro-futurism apparently. I don’t really car what they called it, one thing was damn sure: the Ford Mustang was a muscle car again. And a real beautiful one.

So eventhough my real dream is to get that good old classic ’65 Ford Mustang, I won’t say no to a 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500 ;-)

Thanks again to Wikipedia for helping me getting the facts right.

#3: Mustangvertising

Remember The Million Dollar Homepage? Alex Tew sold one million pixels worth of advertisement for $1 per pixel and made $1 million. With Pixelotto he’s at it again (although pushing his luck) selling one millions pixels again, but at $2 a pixel this time. The biggest difference is that Alex will keep only one million and the other million will be given away amongst the advertisers through a lotto.

Maybe I can use this idea as well to get myself my Mustang and since I only need $25.000 this shouldn’t even be that hard, since know it works for one million. What do I have to do? Get a 3D view of the ’65 Mustang that I want on a website (mustangvertising.com?). The 3D model should have a grid on it devided into 25.000, and you will be able to turn the model around and choose any placement you want. Now considering I will be driving the car (once I get it) the ad placements can’t be too small, or you will never notice. So maybe I got to divide it into 2.500 for $10 each instead of 25.000 for $1 each.

There’s one problem here though. I’m in it for the love of the car, and nothing else. Thinking about having 2.500 stickers on my car (all-over, even the windows) doesn’t make me any happier… I probably will only barely recognize that it’s a Mustang by that time. Take a look at Chick Hicks here, do you really want to drive a car like this? I don’t. I’ll have to come up with something else I guess.

Great 3D Mustang art

While looking for a good Mustang picture I stubmled upon this Russian designer’s work. Dennis Denesyuk is a computer graphics designer who does some great work you can find here. In the 3D portfolio he has a really nice creation of a Mustang.

Junkyard jewels

For my earlier post I was searching for a good image of a Mustang wreck. I was using image search to do so (figured that would be the fastest way) and found some interesting wrecks on the web.

The images as you can see below don’t represent real cars, but these are ‘wrecks’ of Diecast replica’s (1/18 scale). Now that’s a curious hobby! At least they did a good job, especially the one of junkyardjewels.com could easily be sold on Ebay as a real car…

#2: A Mustang project

So buying one is not an option, well that is buying a Mustang that is 100% in order. But what if I bought myself a cheap one, a wreck or whatever you want to call it and re-build the car myself with my own hands. I can tell you, and those who know me will confirm that this idea is so unrealistic it shouldn’t even be on the list :-)

65must2.jpg

I basically got 2 left hands when it comes down to DIY. Too bad, because I could probably buy a cheap wreck (+/- 500$) and time is not an issue. Although buying all the separate parts will become expensive as you can see here. And looking at the image above, I guess all parts are needed.

I think you can fairly say option 2 is as valuable as a choice as option 1. Time to start thinking a bit more creative…

Blurry Mustang

Alright! When 2 passions unite, it better be good. And looking at these billboards for the new Ford Mustang, it looks good indeed. The coolest thing is the technology used to do this, because there are not just big images that blend in with the background. At Ian Hart’s website you can read:

“Constructed from GE Lexan EXL semi-transparent resin, the billboard accurately blurs the scene behind it regardless of day, weather or season.”

Now if that ain’t cool! Here’s what they look like:

#1: Why not just buy one?

So alright, I want a Ford Mustang, preferably the ’65 version. By the end of the sixties and definitely from the seventies onwards the Mustang became quite ugly, but the early Mustangs were beauties! Hence the reason for me blogging about it :-) I must say they get their act together now with the new Mustang, which clearly is inspired from the classic model, but the Mustang is again a great American Muscle.

So why not just buy one since that still is the easiest way to get one… well at least if you got the money for it. How much money do I need? Looking at current Mustang auctions at Ebay, they all seem to be going for 15.000$ to 25.000$, but then I still have got to ship it to Europe (and I have no idea what that would cost me). So another option is to go and have a look at California Import who always have a fair amount of US classic imports in stock. They got a couple of ’65 Mustangs costing around 15.000€. Knowing this, I’d say that 25.000$ which should get me a nice car.

Do I have 25.000$ to spare? Well I don’t sadly enough, so I guess buying is not an option. At least know I know how much money I need so maybe I just have to set up a Paypal account so you can all donate and contribute to my dream that way… I love that idea ;-)

Introduction

This new blog is a combination of some of my interests & passions. Internet, new media, marketing,… are amongst these interests as you can read on ‘Cross The Breeze (my first blog). The Ford Mustang is another passion, and a special one. I don’t know that much about it really, so if you have questions you should check out the Wikipedia entry on the Mustang. I just know that I love this car ever since I saw it for the first time (and that’s long time ago). So what’s missing? I still don’t have my own mustang, so I can only dream about it.

ford-mustang-1a.jpg

The idea of ’65 Mustang is to combine my passion for this car with my passion for new media marketing… or whatever you want to call it. The internet has shown recently that there are all new kinds of ways to get what, whether it is a million dollars or a Ferrari. With this blog I want to look at all possibilities I have to get my ’65 Ford Mustang, stealing an idea here and there ;-)
