Rent-a-Racer
Last year I wrote about the GT350-H, the special Mustang that came out of a partnership between Hertz and Ford. They produced a 1000 of these back in 1966 and re-introduced the program in 2006 with the new version of the Mustang. Incredible idea, you could truly rent a racer for a day… that is if you live in the United States.
This week I found out that this situation has changed though. According to a fellow car enthusiast and blogger, there are now 2 Mustangs GT350-H for rent at Hertz in Schiphol (by the Amsterdam airport, The Netherlands). They have a coupé and a convertible, both for rent at €750 for 3 days. And even if it isn’t the classic version, I’d sure be open to cruise around in one of these for 3 days. Amsterdam here I come?
Mustang church
Say what?! Jalopnik said it best with their title to go with this story: “Mustang church puts the fun back in to fundamentalism“. Brilliant.
The initial story was reported by Tom Strongman about the 74 year old Charles Ales who built the Mustang Church of America and Museum on his property.
“This is “the only church in the world dedicated to the Mustang car and Jesus Christ,” Ales said. “I’m going to preach goodness. Treat other people like you want to be treated, make this a better planet and make this place a better world than when you found it.”
The church will not be complete and ready for dedication until late this summer or early fall when parking and landscaping are in place. Ales has commissioned an 8-by-10 foot mural to be mounted behind the altar showing Jesus Christ behind the wheel of a 1966 Mustang.”
The Museum/Church has a collection of about 8 Mustangs, both old and new. Last but not least, when asked about blessing other muscle cars as well, Ales replied “I bless only Fords”. Talk about a true Ford/Mustang evangelist.
Only in America.
#15: Let Hertz put you in the driver’s seat
And no, I still haven’t got my classic Mustang yet. I should have been around in ’66 because even if I wouldn’t have been able to buy one then, at least I could have rented a very cool one.
In 1966 rental company Hertz struck a special deal with Ford to produce a special line of GT350′s for rent, called the GT350H. Only a 1000 were made and are quite hard to find these days.
Now that’s what I call a rental, see some cool pics here. Last year Ford introduced the 2006 version of the GT350H so I could rent one today as well, that is if I were to live in the US (which is not the case). The thing is though, that it really is that classic Mustang that does it for me ;)
Mustang for the cause
Yesterday I received a comment from Suzanne Vanderhoef about a project that definitely deserves some extra attention.
RIDEMAKERZ™ along with legendary car designer Chip Foose, are auctioning off five MAKERZ Edition Ford Mustangs on Ebay to benefit the Progeria Research Foundation.
These 5 very special cars, approximately 1:18 scale, with custom painted ABS plastic bodies, were personally selected by Chip from our “MAKERZ EDITION” of just 100 Mustangs, which were not for sale but were given to our employees and friends to commemorate the new RIDEMAKERZ SHOP opening at Mall of America this past July.
Chip, who is on the board of RIDEMAKERZ, selected the 5 numbers for auction [67, 68, 05, 06, & 07], for their SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE in the history of the Ford Mustang:
- Numbers 67 and 68 were selected by Chip because he considers these years as the Mustang’s finest and they were the inspiration for the Ford designers when they designed the new Muscle Car-inspired Mustang GT.
- Numbers 05, 06 and 07 were selected by Chip as the years of the reemergence of these Mustangs.
So Mustang lovers – because I guess this is what keeps you coming here – what keeps you waiting: it’s a Mustang and for the cause. Place your bid ;)
