The Road Cars [AdClassix Week]

This entry belongs to the AdClassix special we’re organizing here this week – all in honor of some great classic Mustang ads. You can find the full collection here at the end of the week.

Do you agree with Carroll Shelby that good driving is fine are? Carroll Shelby presents the road cars… GT 350 and GT500 for 1967.

More AdClassix tomorrow on this blog ;)

Shelby Cobra GT 350/500 KR [AdClassix Week]

This entry belongs to the AdClassix special we’re organizing here this week – all in honor of some great classic Mustang ads. You can find the full collection here at the end of the week.

Probably not an print ad like the others but I would guess part of a brochure or something: “Specifications and features”.

Join me tomorrow for more AdClassix.

Fender Shelby or Mustang Stratocaster?

The Mustang seems to have a thing with guitars, Fender guitars. Or Fender has a thing with the Mustang, not sure who’s taking the lead in this. One thing is sure though, there are plenty of people at both companies that believe there’s a good synergy between them.

It seems like every single model has it’s own guitar ;) There’s the Shelby GT-500 KR Edition Fender Stratocaster which was expected to sell out fast but you can still get them here ($4.999 no less!).

Also the Shelby GT had one some time ago (which apparently did sell out fast) …

and it seems there’s even a Shelby GT-H branded version which I don’t think even went into production. Remember how the 350 GT-H is the Hertz rent-a-racer?

Funny enough, when you go the the Fender website, none of these guitars are mentioned but they do have this one: ‘65 Mustang.

“Small and fast—like a sports car! Fender is proud to reissue the ’65 Mustang guitar (1965 was the first full year of Mustang production). Originally designed as a “student model,” the Mustang was nonetheless destined for greatness, and has been seen slung over the shoulders of great players such as David Byrne, John Frusciante, Kurt Cobain, Todd Rundgren, Graham Coxon and Adrian Belew, to name but a few.”

Finally, there’s one that I could only find on Steedshop.com – the “45 Anniversary” Mustang Fender Accoustic Guitar.

So, looking at all this Mustang guitar goodness – which one would you prefer? I’m not talking about the most expensive or most exclusive necessarily but the one you think makes most sense or looks the coolest of all? Let me know in the poll below.

More Mustang AdClassix

I wrote about the AdClassix website before, and although it has never been the idea to show you every single Mustang ad that is one there, I wanted to share these 1968 Cobra GT print ads with you.

“Caroll Shelby COBRA GT… for the man who wants everything in one car.”

CobraGT_1

“Shelby COBRA GT performance is built-in, not tacked on.”

It seems like these cutaways were pretty popular at Shelby back then, thinking back about the Shelby GT 350 post I once did.

Classic advertising for classic cars, can it get any better than this? ;)

Mustang church

Say what?! Jalopnik said it best with their title to go with this story: “Mustang church puts the fun back in to fundamentalism“. Brilliant.

MustangChurch

The initial story was reported by Tom Strongman about the 74 year old Charles Ales who built the Mustang Church of America and Museum on his property.

“This is “the only church in the world dedicated to the Mustang car and Jesus Christ,” Ales said. “I’m going to preach goodness. Treat other people like you want to be treated, make this a better planet and make this place a better world than when you found it.”

The church will not be complete and ready for dedication until late this summer or early fall when parking and landscaping are in place. Ales has commissioned an 8-by-10 foot mural to be mounted behind the altar showing Jesus Christ behind the wheel of a 1966 Mustang.”

The Museum/Church has a collection of about 8 Mustangs, both old and new. Last but not least, when asked about blessing other muscle cars as well, Ales replied “I bless only Fords”. Talk about a true Ford/Mustang evangelist.

Only in America.

Mustang is the new KITT

I know it’s been pretty quiet around here… I have been on holiday but I’m back for more Mustang now ;)

It’s no surprise to you that I’m a Mustang fan but when I read this news at MustangBlog I didn’t think of it as a good idea. Apparently the new Shelby GT500KR will feature as KITT in the new Knight Rider TV series. Thinking of the original KITT it doesn’t feel like both cars even compare, but I’m probably just getting old.

KITT

What I do hope though is that David Hasselhoff gets the same treat in this new series, that would be good.

Couldn’t find a car you like here in Germany?

I posted this neat quote already back in January pointing to a commercial that was burried somewhere deep down in the Ford website.

“So, you couldn’t find a car you like here in Germany? No, I couldn’t find a speed limit I liked in America!”

The only reason for posting this again today is that I found the clip on Youtube so much easier for you to enjoy, so here we go:

GT 50%

I agree, this blog didn’t get enough attention of my the last few weeks and months. I’m hoping to become again a bit more active here so here we go again, thanks for sticking around.

I wanted to show you a car that I found last week on Gizmodo, not because it’s good looking nor because it’s a Mustang… because it ain’t. I present you the Smartinor – a crazy concept car design based on the Smart ForTwo and Eleanor (the Mustang out of ‘Gone in 60 Seconds‘ remember). It’s a kind of funny ugly car and especially the GT 50% on the sidestrip is good proof of that.

Just one thing though, lose the Japanese chick will ya ;)

King of the Road

At the end of March Ford announced an exciting teaser related to the 40th anniversary of the 1968 Shelby GT500 KR: a new “King of the Road” to be expected in 2008. You can hear Carroll Shelby talk about the KR, what Ford’s ask was at the time and how they to the name in this video:

It will be an exclusive run of only 1.000 units for the new Shelby Mustang, and I’ll leave it up to other sites to amuse you with the technical details, but here’s what you can expect. I still prefer the classic versions over any new one, but must say this looks very good.

Today’s Mustang commercials are from 1967. Enjoy the new features announced on the 1967 version and the introduction of the Mustang Shelby GT, one of the coolest sports cars ever if you ask me.
