Ford Mustang Gran Turismo

At the Gran Turismo Awards at this year’s SEMA, this 1970’s Ford Mustang “Trans-Cammer” took home the award. And what does that mean exactly? Well that means it’ll get the digital treatment to feature in the 5th edition of the Gran Turismo game… so you’ll be able to drive it, quite literally (albeit still virtually) :)

Game on!

Not again…

The forest, the ranch, … it’s like I’m seeing abandoned Mustangs everywhere. Why don’t ever uncover a couple of these in my backyard? :)

This time they’re parked down in the Kentucky weeds, go check it out for yourself.

Mustang Ranch

After the Mustang Forest… we got the Mustang Ranch, and it can be yours for $700.000 (well if it ain’t sold already that is).

It’s a shame to see such a collection of fine cars rot away, anyway here’s the story on how it was discovered by a reader of Jalopnik:

“I have just returned from a vacation somewhere tropical. On the way back form a day excursion I chose an alternate way back to the highway. Ok, I made wrong turn somewhere and rolled with it. This "scenic route" brought us upon what was recorded by these images. It was my wife who first saw them. "Oh look, Mustangs!" I turned my head in time to see a metric shitload of vintage ponies. I immediately turned around and pulled into the driveway. There was a gentleman in the yard who turned out to be the caretaker for the owner of the house/treasure trove. It turns out that the guy who collected all these cars recently succumbed to cancer and his wife wants all these pretty ponies sold en masse for what is by local standards the princely sum of $700 large (I think there plenty of room for negotiation here).”

More images on Jalopnik.

Mustangers have more fun! [AdClassix Week II]

This entry belongs to the 2nd edition of the AdClassix special we’re organizing here this week – all in honor of some great classic Mustang ads. You can find the full collection here at the end of the week.

A car to make weak men strong, strong men invincible… how did they come up with stuff like that?

“Desmond was afraid to let the cat out… until he got his Mustang.”

Yeah sure :) Enjoy anyway.

More AdClassix tomorrow.

Mustang atop of Empire State Building

Just like Jalopnik mentioned, it was pretty amazing to see Porsche put its Panamera on the 94th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center. Only to find out that Ford did something similar 44 years earlier…

Stunning view don’t you think? It wasn’t too easy to get it up there and no, it wasn’t by using a helicopter or anything:

“In October 1965, with the Ford Mustang the hottest-selling car in America, the general manager of the Empire State Building had a great idea – to display a Ford Mustang on the 86th floor observation deck of the iconic Manhattan landmark.

Officials at Ford agreed and dispatched a crew to take was careful measurements of the skyscraper’s doors, hallways and elevators. They determined that a white convertible Mustang could be disassembled into four main sections and transported – along with many smaller pieces – up to the building’s 86th floor in elevators to be reassembled.”

Dixit Leslie Armbruster, Senior Collections Archivist at Ford Motor Company… now there’s a person I would like to get to know ;)

I love stories like this. Send me some more Leslie!

Sonny & Cher

About 6 months ago I wrote about a pair of special Mustangs that were up for auction. Just a couple of days ago Jalopnik posted another story about these cars… although they do look a bit different now: even uglier than before is a better way of putting it I guess. The first photo is from the post I did several months ago, the second on of the new story on Jalopnik.

I’m not totally sure if those are the same cars (maybe they were modified over time, maybe someone love the original so much they wanted the same, …) but they sure do look tacky. Anybody know the real story behind both cars?

Mustang ‘Crazy Horse’

Here we are again, after a bit of a break from Mustang blogging – here is part of the reason why in case you wonder – I’m back at it again. But enough introduction already, look at what I found some days ago…

67-ebay-mustang-hardtop-vert-580

Autoblog found this one for sale over on Ebay and apparently it’s the only 1967 Ford Mustang ever fitted with a retractable hardtop. Well it’s the first I’ve seen anyway. Not sure if I like it though, but people that have been reading this blog for a while know that I like to stick with the real thing.

[Update - Seems like the retractable hardtop on a classic Mustang isn't unique, I suppose the 1967 Mustang with butterfly doors AND a retractable hardtop still is though ;)]

Mustang Shelby GT-500 telephone

We’re all too late as it seems the phone just sold out, I reckon by popular demand. Wouldn’t you throw away your iPhone, Gphone or what not to have one of these instead?

I’m sorry but I can only smile at the idea of having this against my ear to make a phonecall :) Loving the Mustang and all, but seriously, this cannot be good.

$5.5 Million Ford Mustang?

first-1964-ford-mustang-convertible

Is this Mustang actually worth $5.5 Million? Apparently it is and the reason for all that is that it would be the first ever built Mustang.

“It’s a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Convertible which should cost the new owner, $5.5 million which include a letter from William Clay Ford, full ownership history and of course the original registration plates. As you can see the Convertible Mustang looks extremely well, and that is because it was restored in 1983.”

According to Racing Daily this Mustang hasn’t just been discovered, as their seems to be quite some documentation about it already:

“Mustang 212 is not a mystery vehicle that has just been discovered. This Convertible is well known in Mustang circles, chronicled in Mustang publications, and entered in Mustang Registries. It was also displayed at the Towe Museum in San Diego, CA for a period of over ten years. It was loaned to Henry Clay Ford’s granddaughter to use at her wedding in December 2006.”

Well, it sure looks nice but the price tag is maybe just that little bit too much for me ;) If you fancy it however then here’s where you can buy it.

MonsterStang

I was thinking since we’re talking so much lately about all these weird Mustang mods out there, I had to go find the one model I could think of that was still missing – the Monster Truck, or at least something similar. And yes, of course, there are Mustangs such as to be found… here’s one for your viewing pleasure:

Did I miss a conversion I haven’t yet blogged about?
