Goodwood Festival of Speed (2011)

Earlies this summer I went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed (UK) for the first time in my life, and man was that a great event. Going back next year, I know that much.

It’s difficult to describe what the event really is, because it’s a lot of things at the same time. But that’s also not very important, the only thing you need to know it’s 4 days of classic & sports car galore like you have never seen before. And give it to Lord March, the Festival of Speed is also one of the best organized events of that size I have ever been to.

Mustang twins: Bullitt & P-51

There weren’t many Mustangs at the event, apart from the “Bullitt” and P-51 you see above, but if you’re into cars you will like what I saw there. Here’s the link to my Flickr set, giving you a bit of an idea of the overall event.

Babestang

Let’s kick off Monday in good fashion. With a Mustang and a babe, how about that? ;)

IbM on Facebook

And no not the IBM of course, this IbM stands for I blog Mustang ;) It all started with this blog, then I added a Twitter account to it and also a Group on Flickr. It really only was a matter of time (and mostly about finding the time to do it) before I would create this Facebook page. Well now it’s done so if you like this blog I invite you to take a look.

Happy holidays y’all!

New AdClassix week coming up

Collected some nice classic Mustang ads again so will be posting them all during next week – AdClassix week starting Monday – similar to what I did last October for those who remember.

All ads I ever posted on this blog can also be found on this page which is dedicated to classic Mustang ads.

Classic Car Ghent ‘09

I went to the Classic Car Expo in Ghent this weekend, just like last year. And I was lucky as there were quite a few Mustangs this year, definitely more than last year. Hopefully that trend will continue as next week the Antwerp Oldtimer Expo is on so going to check it out there as well. Here are some of the photos I took in Gent:

The real deal

And here are those of last year in Ghent, and last year in Antwerp.

Mustang of the week #9

Back in Europe this week for the series – Oslo (Norway) to be exact, with Arnfinn Hushovd’s answers on my 5 questions.

1. Which of your own photos in the Flickr group you like most?

This is the Mustang picture I am most happy with. This profile of the mustang makes it look its best. Also the depth of field, the light and the memory of a perfect summers day, and my old Mustang.

I really miss the summer

2. Is there a particular story around one of your Mustang photos that you would like to share? Something that happened when you took it? Or something related to the response you got on the photo so far?

The day I got to drive at an air strip. -I knew about a old airport in Froland, the southern part of Norway, and that it was now owed by a airplane model club. We cold not drive on it. My brother and I took our chances and there we met one man who gave us permission as long as we did not interfere with his model helicopter. We had a great time burning rubber from one end of the runway to the other in the burning summer heat until the radiator was boiling hot.

Filming at Gullknapp air field

Great memories! We also filmed that day, and if you are interested you can se the resolute here.

3. Do you own a Mustang yourself? Which model? And would you like to have one if that’s not the case yet?

Yes I own a 1969 Sport Roof v4 302 and loving it! Tough now the car is in winter hibernation because of all the salt in the streets and the 50cm(19inch) of snow… I will have to way until April to drive it again. I have many plans for it, first big thing is to get it painted black or dark gray. I want to tone it down a bit. The car is screaming in that orange color!

My Mustang

4. Do you have a specific love for photographing Mustangs? Or is a coincidence? Or a passion for cars in general?

Its a new found interest for me to take photos of cars. Old American cars preferably but most of all my own Mustang. I never get tiered of taking photos of it and hopefully someday I will also shoot some video of it.

5. Which one of the other photos (in the Flickr group) are you jealous of as a photographer?

Its a great photo. High contrast, a small tilt and little color. Also the blurry background looks great. This kinda style I want to try to do more of.

Smooth back

Note: this is the second time we get this one selected, time to get Steve Kay on the series don’t you think? ;)

Thanks for sharing this with us Arnfinn, here’s my favorite out of your collection… great title too: “Beast in the dark”.

Mustang of the week #8

This week’s guest in my ‘Mustang of the week’ series is Rob from Austin (Texas / USA). Here are his answers to my 5 questions:

1. Which of your own photos in the Flickr group you like most?

Of the photos I have in the group, my favorite is the shot of the brake light, looking down the street ahead.

brake

2. Is there a particular story around one of your Mustang photos that you would like to share? Something that happened when you took it? Or something related to the response you got on the photo so far?

A part of my work as a photographer includes shooting weddings. I was actually in the middle of shooting a wedding when I happened across this beauty. While we waited for the bridal party to arrive for their portraits, I cranked off several frames for the guy who had done the restoration.

3. Do you own a Mustang yourself? Which model? And would you like to have one if that’s not the case yet?

I don’t own one now, but my first car was a red 1965 Mustang Fastback, pretty similar to the one in the photos. I wish that I had never sold it.

4. Do you have a specific love for photographing Mustangs? Or is a coincidence? Or a passion for cars in general?

I love shooting all cars, but I particularly enjoy shooting classic Mustangs. Owning one gave me a special passion for them. Plus, the Mustang is the car that started the muscle car phenomenon. I have a special appreciation for that.

5. Which one of the other photos (in the Flickr group) are you jealous of as a photographer?

Though "The Boss" technically came later, I love the shot of the 1965 Fastback’s gills:

Thanks for your answers and for your photos, great stuff. My personal favorite from your photos in my Flickr group is this one:

There are quite a few photos out there that capture the Mustang logo on the grille but yours is a really fine example of that.

More goodness next week.

Mustang of the week #7

Yes I know, I missed last week. I didn’t have any post lined up in advance and the holidays called for no blogging activity so there you go. We are back in full swing though this week and our guest this time is Tony Starr from Melbourne (Australia) – where all the best Mustangs are as Tony puts it :)

1. Which of your own photos in the Flickr group you like most?

Tough question. Probably my favorite Mustang photograph, isn’t in the group. What is there of mine, I probably like the film shot, with my reflection in a ’66 side mirror.

2. Is there a particular story around one of your Mustang photos that you would like to share? Something that happened when you took it? Or something related to the response you got on the photo so far?

I guess one of the more interesting photographs, is the one of my old girlfriend wearing her mustang belt buckle at a mustang round-up. I pulled her across in front of one of the cars and shot her standing there, with the belt bucket and mustang coral side-by-side.

3. Do you own a Mustang yourself? Which model? And would you like to have one if that’s not the case yet?

For a while there, I was looking at buying one. I’ve always loved the shape of the original coupe and fastback. I’d love to own a 69 or 70 mach 1. maybe one day. I already have two classic cars, taking up my time and money!

4. Do you have a specific love for photographing Mustangs? Or is a coincidence? Or a passion for cars in general?

I’ve always photographed cars. I guess it comes pretty natural to photograph the things you love, when you pick up a camera. I love most cars from the 60s and 70s. it was such a golden era in automotive history. and there’s nothing better than seeing a restored or (even better) an immaculate original car from that era being driven.

5. Which one of the other photos (in the Flickr group) are you jealous of as a photographer?

Anything by evvvvs, of course. His wide-angle style are pretty wicked.

Glowing 66

Thanks for sharing Tony! My favorite within your Flickr set must be this one, awesome shot…

… although I like this one a lot as well. And where did you find the buckle? :)

More goodness next week. I will have to chase some people on getting the answers in though…

Mustang of the week #6

Wow! Already the sixth week in this ‘Mustang of the week’ series, don’t you like the beauty in these photos? I know I do. This week our guest is Jan R. from Hamburg (Germany). I know who to call for a ride in a couple of months when I’ll be in Hamburg for Next09 :)

1. Which of your own photos in the Flickr group you like most?

Nordic Pony Cars 00819

2. Is there a particular story around one of your Mustang photos that you would like to share? Something that happened when you took it? Or something related to the response you got on the photo so far?

Well, all of these winter photos. It wasn’t winter at all. Just hoarfrost for 3-4 hours in the morning. And some haze. 3 hours later all the magic was gone and it was a rainy day. Lucky us, being out there at the right time in the right place.

3. Do you own a Mustang yourself? Which model? And would you like to have one if that’s not the case yet?

Yes, the 1968 Coupé, Sprint Promotion B, you can see more photos here.

4. Do you have a specific love for photographing Mustangs? Or is a coincidence? Or a passion for cars in general?

A passion for cars in general, and for my car especially ;-)

5. Which one of the other photos (in the Flickr group) are you jealous of as a photographer?

Ensaio Mustang - Capa Maxi Tuning - jan/07

Good selection again. I really like Jan’s ‘winter’ series but also these night shots are pretty interesting, here’s one of those I like most. Don’t forget to check out all of Jan’s great Mustang photos in the Flickr group.

More goodness next week.

Mustang of the week #5

This week in the ‘Mustang of the week’ series my guest is Didier Lahousse (Exxodus on Flickr) from Charleroi (Belgium). Here are his answers to the 5 questions:

1. Which of your own photos in the Flickr group you like most?

This one was taken last summer (‘08). We spot the building in the background long time ago. It’s situated near the local airport and it’s very particular. In fact, the "sails" you see are used to get fresh air in the building, like natural air conditioning and on the roof there is a windmill that generates electrical power to the building. A kind of zero emission building almost ;)

Mustang 1969 Coupe

2. Is there a particular story around one of your Mustang photos that you would like to share? Something that happened when you took it? Or something related to the response you got on the photo so far?

"My mustang on the street of Belgacom tower in Brussels, Belgium." This shoot is a professional shoot; It was used to illustrate an ad for a recycling company. Of cause, some Photoshop mods were done like: cleaning the street from cars, ad panels, … and the water splash was created launching sand bags into water, some reflections were added. If someone got the final product (magazine), I would appreciate if you could send me a scan!

(Bussel / Bruxelles) Oups!

Pictures taken on set (you’ll see the before / after effect):

3. Do you own a Mustang yourself? Which model? And would you like to have one if that’s not the case yet?

Got a 1969 V8 302 Coupe Mustang. Lot’s of mods where applied to the car like, some goodies to the engine, T5 5 speed trans, a ford 3.55 (read end 9”), 03 mach1 wheel (17”), line lock, cut outs, and more to come.

Some of the rebuild story photos can be found here.

4. Do you have a specific love for photographing Mustangs? Or is a coincidence? Or a passion for cars in general?

My mustang Story started in 2002, when I bought my own. As a French speaking man, I searched the interne for a good quality site to help me rebuild my pony. Not really happy by what i found, i decide to open my own "mustang passion forum" ( http://www.mustangpassion.com ). Since, the website has grown a lot and is now known as the French speaking reference site with more than 1600 members and 150.000 messages posted. In 2005, ‘mustang passion’ also transformed into a Mustang owner Club in Belgium and in France.

5. Which one of the other photos (in the Flickr group) are you jealous of as a photographer?

Many! But I always loved this one :

Mustang by Tabajara Car Rox - Revista Maxi Tuning

Good choices Didier. I would personally have chose other rims on the Mustang but then again, I don’t even have one… at least you do :)

Here’s on of the photos I like most out of your collection:
