Mustang of the week #3
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I found so many good Mustang photos on Flickr (preparing for this series of posts) that I created a Flickr group for it. Then I started wondering if it wouldn’t be cool to give some more background about the photographer instead of just sharing the on great photo. So from now on this weekly post will highlight one of the photographers in that Flickr group, and I will be asking them the same 5 questions.
First up is Evan aka evvvvs from Melbourne, Australia!
1. Which of your own photos in the Flickr group you like most?
I don’t have a favorite but if I had to pick one, this might be it. Both of these beautifully restored cars were recent concourse trophy winners. Congratulations Tony & Jim!
2. Is there a particular story around one of your Mustang photos that you would like to share? Something that happened when you took it? Or something related to the response you got on the photo so far?
I guess this photo stands out a little. The striking black paint work & the fact that it’s the same model as my own car, really dragged me in. I met Laurie the owner on this particular night & we had a good long chat about our cars. We bump into each other regularly at local events & he’s always got a kind word to say about the photos I post on Flickr. It’s great to get that sort of feedback from the owners of the cars you shoot.
3. Do you own a Mustang yourself? Which model? And would you like to have one if that’s not the case yet?
Yes, I own a 1965 A-Code Coupe which I’m currently restoring.
4. Do you have a specific love for photographing Mustangs? Or is a coincidence? Or a passion for cars in general?
I certainly do. I have a passion for early Mustangs & while I can’t enjoy mine (resto in progress) I figure I might as well enjoy the finished projects of fellow Mustang owners!
5. Which one of the other photos (in the Flickr group) are you jealous of as a photographer?
I think this shot by Steve Kay is pretty special:
Thanks Evan! Nice choice on the photos and good luck with the restoration of your own Mustang. Oh and Evan, I think I like this one most, but it’s a tough choice to make :)
More goodness next Friday.
Most popular Mustangs ever?
Mustang Monthly picks the most popular Mustangs ever based on what they’ve seen and heard from their readers. Not a very scientific way to do this but given their Mustang knowledge it’s definitely worth checking out.
I have no idea what these 2 eighties models (7 and 8) are doing in the list, those are models we are all trying to forget no? And I sure don’t know what the ‘93 Mustang Cobra is doing at number 3?! But then again, I sort of gave up in the early seventies and only happily look at the Mustang again since they re-launched the model in 2005. And I think the ‘67 Mustang GT 390 deserves better than number 6 etc etc…
Anyway, take a look for yourself (part 1 / part 2) and let me know in the comments about your personal Mustang top 3 or top 5. Maybe we can do our own list someday.
Shelby “Black Hornet”
Okay, no need to look any further, this is the car I want. Carroll Shelby is selling this ‘68 Shelby EXP500 CSS out of his personal collection and all proceeds will go to the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation, which helps children worldwide battle life-threatening illnesses while promoting the importance of organ and tissue donation. The auction will start on December 2nd on Ebay.
Bidding begins at $100.000 which is enough to keep me out of the loop for potential future ownership unfortunately. Too bad, the car looks absolutely awesome! Here’s some more Mustang goodness, click on the image for hi res versions.

Do you agree with Carroll Shelby that good driving is fine are? Carroll Shelby presents the road cars… GT 350 and GT500 for 1967.

Probably not an print ad like the others but I would guess part of a brochure or something: “Specifications and features”.
Join me tomorrow for more AdClassix.
More Mustang AdClassix
I wrote about the AdClassix website before, and although it has never been the idea to show you every single Mustang ad that is one there, I wanted to share these 1968 Cobra GT print ads with you.
“Caroll Shelby COBRA GT… for the man who wants everything in one car.”
“Shelby COBRA GT performance is built-in, not tacked on.”
It seems like these cutaways were pretty popular at Shelby back then, thinking back about the Shelby GT 350 post I once did.
Classic advertising for classic cars, can it get any better than this? ;)
My desktop
I once wrote about a photographer who took some brilliant classic car pictures… and on occasion he – Djivy – takes some Mustang pictures as well and they almost always make it to my desktop as nice background. Also looking for the right Mustang background, other than what you can find on the more regular Mustang sources, check out these below:
Both photos were taken at the Antwerp Classic Salon, which I visit as well every year but it looks like there’s still room for improvement for me ;) Here are my sets of the Antwerp Classic Salon and the Ghent Classic Salon. Let me know what you think and definitely let me know if you can point me to other great Mustang photographers.
Mustang is the new KITT
I know it’s been pretty quiet around here… I have been on holiday but I’m back for more Mustang now ;)
It’s no surprise to you that I’m a Mustang fan but when I read this news at MustangBlog I didn’t think of it as a good idea. Apparently the new Shelby GT500KR will feature as KITT in the new Knight Rider TV series. Thinking of the original KITT it doesn’t feel like both cars even compare, but I’m probably just getting old.
What I do hope though is that David Hasselhoff gets the same treat in this new series, that would be good.
