The Ford Collection
During a phone conversation with Scott Monty a few days ago, Scott talked about the FordCollection.com website, a site that sells … well Ford ‘stuff’. Scott is head of social media at Ford Motor Company and since we’re in the same business (although totally different regions and products) and we share some of the same Mustang passion (with the difference that I think he drives one and I definitely don’t) we had some extra good reasons to catch up.
Anyway – I was looking between the Mustang related items in the store and noticed this tin sign, which I had seen at classic car shows in the past as well. Only the price ($12) is much lower than what I have seen so far. Luckily I didn’t order right away because a few days later I came across the Steedshop.com that sold the same sign for $10.88 and had information about international shipments (something I couldn’’t find at FordCollection.com.
I will try to order something at both online shops and will let you know which comes out best (at least for international). One thing is clear from the start – if you want choice, Steedshop.com is the best option.
Fender Shelby or Mustang Stratocaster?
The Mustang seems to have a thing with guitars, Fender guitars. Or Fender has a thing with the Mustang, not sure who’s taking the lead in this. One thing is sure though, there are plenty of people at both companies that believe there’s a good synergy between them.
It seems like every single model has it’s own guitar ;) There’s the Shelby GT-500 KR Edition Fender Stratocaster which was expected to sell out fast but you can still get them here ($4.999 no less!).
Also the Shelby GT had one some time ago (which apparently did sell out fast) …
and it seems there’s even a Shelby GT-H branded version which I don’t think even went into production. Remember how the 350 GT-H is the Hertz rent-a-racer?
Funny enough, when you go the the Fender website, none of these guitars are mentioned but they do have this one: ‘65 Mustang.
“Small and fast—like a sports car! Fender is proud to reissue the ’65 Mustang guitar (1965 was the first full year of Mustang production). Originally designed as a “student model,” the Mustang was nonetheless destined for greatness, and has been seen slung over the shoulders of great players such as David Byrne, John Frusciante, Kurt Cobain, Todd Rundgren, Graham Coxon and Adrian Belew, to name but a few.”
Finally, there’s one that I could only find on Steedshop.com – the “45 Anniversary” Mustang Fender Accoustic Guitar.
So, looking at all this Mustang guitar goodness – which one would you prefer? I’m not talking about the most expensive or most exclusive necessarily but the one you think makes most sense or looks the coolest of all? Let me know in the poll below.
#20: M(o)us(e)tang
I can haz Mustang! Well sort of. “Cruise the web in style” is what it says on the website of 4 Door Media who created this Ford Mustang Series Wireless Car Mouse:
“4Door’s car mouse designs have the look of a replica automobile and the functionality of the best pointing devices on the market. The functioning headlights and smooth lines give the car a realistic look and feel. A must have for car enthusiasts and collectors.”

They’re available in a whole bunch of different colors as well. It sure would do well in my little office :)

#18: Legostang
Check this out – so you know what to do when you really got some time on your hands.
“Man builds 1967 Mustang out of Legos complete with real suspension, shaker hood, doors and a model V8 engine. The Lego creation also features working gears and a removable body. If you look at it long enough you can tell it’s a Mustang.”
This execution also provides me with an idea to finally get that much wanted classic Mustang. Maybe I should buy a truckload of Lego and build my own Legostang, but then actual size. Although, now I think of it, I would probably need so much Lego that it’s probably cheaper to actually buy a real one. Let alone the time and skills I would need to do this… which (trust me) I don’t have.
So Kudos to this guy for building this small but inspiring Lego creation. Here’s a video of it, check it out.
#17: Mustang GRID
Mustangs seem to be a popular prize. AllFordMustangs made a wrap-up recently of competitions that featured a Ford Mustang as a prize. And although all competitions are US only, there’s one that caught my eye, the GRID competition. GRID is the name of the newest addition of Codemasters‘ TOCA/DTM series.
Why did it caught my eye? It combines 2 passions – race games on the Xbox and the classic Mustang. That you can actually win at classic Mustang GT is an extra interesting bonus… if I would have lived in the US. For the record you can win a BMW in Europe, not half as interesting really.
So what can you do to participate? Download the demo of the game and look for the competition in the Time Attack mode. The top five players will be flown to the GRID launch event to San Francisco. The grand winner wins an eBay Motors-branded Ford Mustang GT-R. The contest ends May 25, 2008.
“The eBay Motors Ford Mustang GT-R is modified with a custom body kit. It has a supercharged engine with 445 hp, a side ported exhaust system, 20” GTR concept wheels, and a six stage custom pearl paint job and – of course – eBay Motors’ graphics.”
So for all of you US gaming Mustang lovers – what are you waiting for?!
Mustang Transformer
Remember this ad for Citroen? Then you will pretty sure enjoy this one for Chevrolet! But then of course, this one rules them all. Well it’s not exactly an ad, but just because, you know :)

Mustang for the cause
Yesterday I received a comment from Suzanne Vanderhoef about a project that definitely deserves some extra attention.
RIDEMAKERZ™ along with legendary car designer Chip Foose, are auctioning off five MAKERZ Edition Ford Mustangs on Ebay to benefit the Progeria Research Foundation.
These 5 very special cars, approximately 1:18 scale, with custom painted ABS plastic bodies, were personally selected by Chip from our “MAKERZ EDITION” of just 100 Mustangs, which were not for sale but were given to our employees and friends to commemorate the new RIDEMAKERZ SHOP opening at Mall of America this past July.
Chip, who is on the board of RIDEMAKERZ, selected the 5 numbers for auction [67, 68, 05, 06, & 07], for their SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE in the history of the Ford Mustang:
- Numbers 67 and 68 were selected by Chip because he considers these years as the Mustang’s finest and they were the inspiration for the Ford designers when they designed the new Muscle Car-inspired Mustang GT.
- Numbers 05, 06 and 07 were selected by Chip as the years of the reemergence of these Mustangs.
So Mustang lovers – because I guess this is what keeps you coming here – what keeps you waiting: it’s a Mustang and for the cause. Place your bid ;)
#14: The legend lives
This should probably be more like a 13 1/2 rather than a 14th try to get myself a Mustang. Let’s say this should get me closer to the Mustang experience so that’s why I figured it counts somehow ;)
A while ago I found out there’s actually an Xbox/PS2 game for the 40th anniversary of the Mustang, called ‘The Legend Lives’. So maybe this was an opportunity to practice my Mustang driver skills so that by the time I finally will own one, I’m all set.
Here’s what they say on Gamespot about this game:
“Affordably priced, the venerated Ford Mustang’s latest namesake game otherwise misfires all the way down the track–suffering from sloppy physics, plodding navigation, dated graphics, and an uninspiring “career” mode.“
And on top of that, Gamespot gives it a 4.4 score, calling it nothing more but ‘poor’. Don’t think it’ll make it to the next Ford Mustang history write up.
#11: One little red Mustang
One July 12th 2005 a guy named Kyle MacDonald trades one little red paperclip for a fish-shaped pen. About 14 trades and one year later he got a house this way. Fascinating isn’t it? Now I’ve always been thinking this could be my next possible venture to try to achieve my goal: getting my own ’65 Mustang.
After looking into buying one, building one from the ground up or selling a few pixels… here’s trial number 11. What I was thinking of doing is to trade things, but unlike Kyle I wouldn’t start with a red paperclip – got to add at least 1 orginal element don’t you think :) – but I’ll start with a little red car. And also, I will only trade for items that relate to classic cars somehow to keep it a good fit with the content on this blog.
The little red car I’m hoping I can kick this off with is also a Ford, although not a Mustang. This one is a 1974 Gran Torino and more specifically, it’s the one from Starsky & Hutch. I think it’s a 1/18 but it doesn’t say so on the car. I still have the original box as well lying around somewhere :)
We’ll see what happens. You can contact me on mustangblog AT hotmail DOT com.
Put Put the Pizza Hut
I just found this on the web, I didn’t even know these Mustang Junior cars existed.
“Put Put to the Pizza Hut” was the first national television commercial for Pizza Hut in 1965. It features a 1965 Mustang JR gas powered promotional car Made by the Powercar Company of Mystic CT. These were made with the cooperation of the Ford Motor Company for use in dealer promotions and other uses. Mustang JRs were made in 1965, 1966 and 1967 and changed each year to match the full size cars.”
Enjoy the ad – did people really go to Pizza Hut because of this?
You can find more videos about these Mustang JRs with roadkillontheweb
